Best Value Daypack: 20 Liters

Whether you’re traveling with luggage or a travel backpack, a daypack is essential for day to day activities.

The best 20L daypack under $15 is the Gonex Ultralight Handy Travel Backpack Packable Daypack 20L. You may even be able to find it on sale for under $10 which is a steal. It is lightweight, water repellent, and folds into a tiny bag great for storage.

I’ll cover why 20L is the best storage size, the ten travel essentials, and some other interesting tidbits on daypacks.

Best Cheap Daypack

The Gonex Ultralight Handy Travel Backpack Packable Daypack 20L is a super lightweight travel companion you can fold up into the size of a sandwich. I love the option to pack this into a travel backpack or to use as a carry-on if bringing luggage.

Another thing I love about this pack is the compartments. There are three zippered compartments: one on the outside for quick access, one main compartment, and a small compartment within for valuables.

The mesh water bottle holsters are also great for disposable bottled water or smaller permanent bottles. These are also a great place to store energy bars or other quick-grab items.

Best Size Daypack for Travel

Different size daypacks are as follows:

Under 14 Liters – Bags smaller than 14 liters are great for high intensity exercises like running, biking, or hiking. They have just enough room to carry a few essential items, but not much more. You’ll probably be able to fit in a jacket, snacks, and personal items such as keys or cell phone.

15-25 Liters: With the additional room in these bags you’ll be able to carry extra items and these are the best size for daypacks. It’s small enough that you can wrap it up and fit it inside your travel bag and allows for high mobility while giving that extra space for all-day journeys.

25-35 Liters: Also a great option. but might be getting too big here. If you and your partner are only packing one large bag, this might be a good option to bring along for additional space.

Ten Essentials

Any bag around 20L or more will get you most if not all the 10 essentials for emergency travelers/hikers:

  1. Navigation – Map, compass, GPS, etc.
  2. Illumination – Flashlight, lantern, headlamp, etc.
  3. Insulation – Jacket, hat, gloves, rain shell, thermal underwear, etc.
  4. First Aid – First Aid Kit
  5. Fire – Matches, lighter, fire starter, etc.
  6. Repair kit – Duct tape, knife, screwdriver, scissors
  7. Nutrition – Food
  8. Hydration – Water and water treatment (filter)
  9. Emergency Shelter – Space blanket, tarp, tent, etc.
  10. Sun Protection – Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, etc.

Conclusion

There are many daypacks out there, but prices are too outlandish in my opinion. This pack gives you everything you need at an extremely low cost. I love the size for walks, hikes, or day trips. I’d highly recommend this product.
